SOUNDBITES, the Social Planning Toronto e-Bulletin, is back with an improved format and some new features. Our goal is to provide a fortnightly update of news, events, and information from Social Planning Toronto and our partners, to further our work in “promoting equitable, effective, and inclusive policies for improving the quality of life in Toronto.” We hope you will continue to find it a useful and informative resource, and, as with any SPT initiative, we welcome your comments and suggestions.
SPT is governed by a 15-person volunteer Board of Directors elected by individual community and organizational membership at the Annual General Membership Meeting (AGM). The SPT’s Annual General Membership Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 at Okham House/Ryerson Student Centre Conferencing at 63 Gould St. in Toronto. There will be 4 vacancies on the Board of Directors. This is a call for nominations to fill these vacancies at the AGM.

Social Planning Toronto’s March 2009 Research & Policy Forum focused on issues relating to immigrant homeless and health & labour market outcomes for immigrants. Presenters include Dr. Stephen Hwang from St. Michael’s Hospital/ University of Toronto who presented findings from the report entitled “The Health of Homeless Immigrants” & Dr. John Shields from Ryerson University who presented findings from the latest publications released by the Toronto Immigrant Employment Data Initiative (TIEDI).
John Campey, the Executive Director of Social Planning Toronto, presented our response to the proposed 2010 City Budget to the City Budget Committee on March 2nd, 2010.
This presentation identified four issues which we feel require further consideration.
